Wilmington Select Board calls a November 21 special town meeting on data center zoning. Director of Planning and Conservation Valerie Gingrich outlined a draft bylaw, modeled on one approved for Mansfield, that would cap unrestricted data centers below two megawatts and confine them by special permit to the highway and general industrial districts, with existing accessory computing uses grandfathered. The board voted unanimously to schedule the meeting ahead of the Planning Board's own September 29 hearing on the bylaw.
Separately, Eversource Energy previewed a new substation and 11 transmission structures crossing Chestnut and Old Main streets, its first project under the state's 2024 Climate Act permitting rules. Town Manager R. Eric Slagle reported the town terminated its Flock Safety camera contract and that the $28 million Boston Street bridge opened September 3.
Resident Rob Fusulo said he'd "encourage that you guys be the body" issuing data center permits, not the Planning Board.
