Wilmington Town Board Begins Community Branding Process, Reviews Employee Handbook

Town Board · Meeting of July 8, 2026

Wilmington Town Board holds work session on community branding and employee handbook revisions. The board heard a presentation from Casey Galligan, Arts Administrator for the Essex County Arts Council, and representatives of Roost, the county's tourism promotion organization, on launching a formal community branding process for Wilmington, which currently has no officially adopted visual identity. Galligan described her organization's recent brand modernization with Roost designer Emily Hazelden, a Wilmington resident, as a roughly four-month process that replaced an inconsistent collection of informal logos with a scalable brand kit.

Roost recommended the town form a volunteer committee drawn from business, nonprofit, arts, and school sectors, with Roost facilitating; the board indicated it would issue a public call for members and formalize the committee by resolution at its next regular meeting. Board members also worked through chapters of the town's employee handbook, clarifying holiday pay language by replacing the ambiguous phrase "eligible non-exempt employees" with plain-language terms, and flagging the town's drug and alcohol testing policy for outside legal review given New York State's marijuana legalization.
