Committee Sets Nov. 18 Vote on New School Name
School Committee · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Wilmington School Committee sets Nov. 18 vote to name new elementary school and accepts $110,000 in state grants. Members agreed to survey residents through Oct. 14 and hold a public hearing Oct. 21 before voting on a name — North Elementary School, North Side Elementary School and Salem Street Elementary School are the leading options. David Ragsdale said "there's really absolutely no reason to extend this process or delay it." The committee also approved $35,000 for athletics, a $25,000 traffic study and $50,000 for high school curriculum restoration, secured with help from state Sen.
Barry Finegold and state Rep. David Robertson. High School Principal Ryan Gendron reported two-thirds of students are using the district's "Doorman" phone-locking app, with 86 percent of staff surveyed rating the policy better than last year's.
Resident Dave Adamak told the committee students on the Route 15 bus route have had to stand in the aisle due to overcrowding. Members also approved a spring 2028 performing-arts trip to Italy and unanimously adopted amended 2026-27 operating protocols.
