Select Board Returns MBTA Zoning to Town Meeting
Select Board · Meeting of September 28, 2026
Wilmington's Select Board votes to send a revised MBTA Communities Act zoning district back to a November 21 special town meeting. Town Manager R. Eric Slagle told the board a failed Supreme Judicial Court appeal by Mansfield closed off the town's last legal challenge, with nine towns, including Wilmington, still fighting the attorney general in Superior Court.
The state wants districts weighted toward "likely to be built" units, eyeing sites like the former Sweetheart Plastics property and Market Basket Plaza. Resident Rob Fasulo countered, "Town meeting said no three times. Now you're saying let's get a fourth bite." The board also approved all-alcohol and common victualler licenses for N.
Joe's Mexican Restaurant at 206 Ballardville Street and signed a $65,000 WCTV equipment grant agreement, with a WCTV representative noting replacement gear at the high school "could fail at any time."
