Wilmington Middle School is launching a Unified Bocce team this fall, student representatives told the School Committee on Oct. 21.
WILMINGTON --
YOUTH LEAGUES: Wilmington Middle School announced it will participate in Unified Bocce starting in fall 2026, a student representative told the School Committee on Oct. 21. The program follows Special Olympics Massachusetts and Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association rules and pairs students with and without intellectual disabilities on co-ed teams in a roughly 50-50 ratio. Organizers said the team's mission centers on meaningful play rooted in dignity, respect and inclusion, with members taking part in intramural practices and games during the month ahead. While scores will be kept, the student representative said the primary goals are developing new skills, meeting personal and team goals, and enjoying the experience of playing together.
