School Committee · Meeting of October 7, 2026
Wilmington's School Committee leaned toward starting the 2027-2028 school year on the Monday before Labor Day instead of the traditional Wednesday, and voted 7-0 not to send a delegate to this year's MASC convention. Secretary Stephen Turner said the current two-day opening week is "difficult from a child care perspective" and could help the district finish the year by mid-June. CARES Program Director Herrera reported 533 children now enrolled in the district's child care program, including 187 in before-school care and 380 after school, with a waitlist of about 10 families.
Member David Ragsdale, who moved the MASC motion, said he "would not support Resolution 2 or 3" on vocational school governance, calling existing state oversight sufficient. The committee also heard that a town manager's letter set October 9 as the deadline for bids on relocating or selling the historic Roman House before demolition proceeds.
