School Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Wilmington School Committee opens the year by adopting a policy barring civil arrests on school grounds. The board unanimously approved Policy ACL, which bars civil law enforcement, including federal immigration agents, from making school-property arrests during school hours without a judicial warrant, complying with the state's emergency Protect Act. Member David Ragsdale called the September 1 compliance deadline a rush: "Districts had essentially no time to respond to this." Separately, the committee unanimously renewed its school resource officer agreement with Wilmington police and appointed new Superintendent Matt Poska to the SEAM Collaborative's board.
Resident Sean DeHart told the committee the high school's Lamplighters drama club has "effectively no drama club" this year after its advisor and production team both departed. The district also confirmed it must retire its Wildcat face logo after the University of Arizona asserted a trademark claim, and Wilmington Middle School was named one of 39 national AMLE Schools of Distinction.
