WILMINGTON -- May 11, 2026, Wilmington Select Board reorganizes, elects new chair and advances senior center lease process. The board unanimously elected Kevin Carahill as its new chair at the May 11 meeting, the first after Annual Town Meeting, then turned immediately to the active request for information for the renovation and lease of the former Buzzell Senior Center, with proposals due May 22. Town Manager Eric confirmed that any prospective tenant must fund all code-compliance and renovation work independently, leaving the $615,000 approved at Special Town Meeting encumbered but outside the current RFI scope. Resident Rob Fasulo, a petitioner behind that appropriation, pushed back during public comment: "That 615,000 was to bring that to a level playing field for whoever wanted it," he said, arguing that community organizations such as WCTV and the Historical Commission cannot self-fund major renovations. The board also learned that MassDOT has set a September 13, 2031, completion date for the Route 38 reconstruction, with a notice to proceed date still unknown, and unanimously approved a Sunday entertainment license for Cushing Amusements for the Fourth of July carnival and three special-event use permits for the Wilmington Farmers Market at the Town Common.
