Wilmington School Committee unanimously approves incoming superintendent's contract

WILMINGTON -- February 11, 2026, Wilmington School Committee approves $54.3 million FY27 budget and unanimously hires incoming Superintendent Matthew Posca. The five-member quorum, meeting February 11, passed the budget, a $2.55 million or 4.94 percent increase over FY26, after Superintendent Andrea Thompson's public hearing presentation, which highlighted four settled union contracts and a $300,000 annual free-cash supplement from the Town Manager to offset contractual salary costs for the next three years. Member Michael Isaac cautioned that "it's not considered generally good municipal finance to be financing salary and contracts from free cash." The committee set September 2 as the 2026-27 first day of school for students in grades 1 through 12, deferring the Good Friday calendar question to the February 25 meeting pending research into teacher absence rates in nearby districts.
